MARTY MARATHON – MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2nd, 2024

10:00am-6:00pm

Amherstburg, ON— August 28th, 2024 — On Monday, September 2nd, 2024, to honour the life and legacy of owner and founder Marty Adler, CKBG 107.9 FM will be hosting the second annual Marty Marathon. What is the Marty Marathon? On Monday, September 4th, 2023 Marty held the first ‘Marty Marathon’ where from 10:00am-6:00pm, Labour Day, he not only released the song ‘Amherstburg’ (lyrics written by Marty Adler, vocals by Rick Rock), but it was the only song to be played during those hours, aside from one Jimmy Buffet song to commemorate the passing of Jimmy Buffet. Throughout the day, Marty told stories and shared insights of his life, experiences and headline news commentary.

This Labour Day, we want to honour Marty with our own version of the ‘Marty Marathon.’ Hear the song Amherstburg every hour on hour, along with other great hits! We will have live hosts in the studio from 10:00am-6:00pm. This is where you, the community, friends, family, former co-workers, fans or anyone that has a Marty story joins our broadcast. The studio will be open to visitors all day so you can either:

  1. Come by the studio and join one of our hosts for a tour and an in-person live radio interview

AMHERSTBURG RADIO STATION GETS IT’S OWN DOCU-SERIES

“Radio Renaissance: Amherstburg’s New Wave” Set for Production via Bell Fibe TV1

Amherstburg, ON— August 12, 2024 — Bell Fibe TV1 has greenlit production on a six-part docuseries focused on 107.9 CKBG, the station’s unusual beginnings, their community involvement, and the impact having a radio station has for the town of Amherstburg. CKBG 107.9 began when large-scale radio stations were declining, but the local community embraced them, and the producers intended to share this story with a cross-Canada audience. Of course, the station’s story would not be complete without spotlighting its owner and founder, Marty Adler. Alder is a legendary local media personality and an innovator in television production in Essex County.

Production will run between August and early 2025, capturing many events, interviews, small business spotlights, and a look at what it takes to run an over-the-air broadcast in modern times. This project will also be an extended opportunity for North Star High School students to have a real-world media opportunity, working camera and sound during filming sessions. CKBG has a strong partnership with North Star High School, including their tech department led by Mr. John Clarke.

Radio Renaissance: Amherstburg’s New Wave” will be produced by Deanna Piazza and Gavin Michael Booth, an Amherstburg native. Piazza is a high school Communication Technology and Media Arts teacher and is heavily involved as a volunteer at the radio station. Booth’s love for filmmaking and video production began as a General Amherst High School student. He had gone on to write and direct feature films, “The Scarehouse,” “Last Call,” and the upcoming “Sydney vs. Sean,” starring Janel Parrish (Pretty Little Liars) & TR Knight (Grey’s Anatomy). He also holds a Platinum Record for a music video shot on Boblo Island, “SYML - Where’s My Love.”

As filming begins at the station and in the community you will see the below sign as a warning of areas that are a filming location.
